Major League Slugger John Hattig, Jr. Visits Local High Schools
Before he heads back for Spring Training in February, Major League slugger, John Hattig, Jr. teamed up with IT&E to “bring it home.” Hattig is visiting local high schools and sharing his experiences on how he fulfilled his dream of becoming Guam's first Chamorro to make it to the Major Leagues.
So far Hattig has visited Notre Dame High School, Simon Sanchez High School, St. Paul's Christian School, Southern High School (his alma mater), Trinity Christian School, and Father Duenas Memorial School and looks to complete the high school circuit with John F. Kennedy High School and Harvest Christian Academy. His goal is to speak to as many of the island’s youth as possible..
"I want to bring home whatever knowledge and experience I’ve gained to help develop our island’s future. My job is to take what my family and the island community has provided me and pour it back into the youth to help guide them in pursuing their dreams as well,” Hattig said. “Although I am committed to representing the island the best I can, I understand that my responsibility extends past the sport of baseball."
IT&E recently held a Baseball Clinic featuring Hattig and several members of the Guam National Baseball Team. The clinic allowed Hattig to instruct participants, ages 9-18, while using Major League drills and techniques.
“IT&E has always been a staunch supporter of community endeavors. It has been an honor to partner with JR Hattig," said Tom R. Camacho, IT&E Vice President for Business and Consumer Services. "He’s a well-respected role model to the island’s youth, and like IT&E, he shares a vision to help develop the island’s youth through sports, education and community involvement. This is an investment we are proud to support."
